Prof.Dr. Ranadeb Biswas,a public health legend ,was born on 29th July 1955. He completed his MBBS in 1979, from Medical College Kolkata. He further went on to do his M.D. (Community Medicine), from Benaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi in 1985.

 

He was the Director Professor and Head, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine at the All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, Kolkata. During his illustrious career here he headed the WHO Collaborating Centre for Disaster Preparedness as its Coordinator and Principal Investigator for quite some time and held coveted posts in Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) and Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) and many other professional bodies.

 

 His academic prowess in the field of community medicine ensured him a place in the editorial boards of many reputed journals and consultancies to various national and international organizations. He was also conferred a Fellowship of Indian Public Health Association. Dr. Ranadeb Biswas was a prolific writer in English and Bengali.

 

His passion for writing and publishing is well-documented in his vast number of articles and papers published in both national and international journals.

 

Besides his academic and professional accomplishments he continued to be an ardent learner throughout. He is remembered as a faculty per excellence, a meticulous guide ,brilliant speaker and  community health researcher whose contributions towards public health remains noteworthy.

 

He breathed his last on 27th November 2012.
