The Undergraduate Quiz in Community Medicine has become one of the most awaited academic events under the IAPSM West Bengal Chapter.
Since 2023, the quiz has been renamed as the Dr. Saswati Nandy Memorial Inter-Collegiate UG Quiz, in loving memory of our respected teacher and mentor, Dr. Saswati Nandy, whose legacy continues to inspire us all.
This quiz is conducted with the aim of motivating undergraduate students to develop interest and deeper understanding in Community Medicine. Students from different medical colleges across West Bengal participate with great enthusiasm and competitive spirit. It offers them a unique platform to showcase their knowledge in Community Medicine
What makes this quiz even more special is the active involvement of faculty members.
Teachers guide and support their students passionately,often sharing in their excitement and nerves.
There is a strong sense of pride and friendly rivalry the event fosters academic collaboration, camaraderie, and mutual respect across institutions. It serves as a vibrant learning experience,beyond the usual classroom setting.
The IAPSM West Bengal Chapter takes pride in continuing this tradition with energy and commitment.
The quiz stands as a tribute to academic excellence and the enduring impact of beloved educators like Dr. Saswati Nandy.

DR. SASWATI NANDY MEMORIAL UNDERGRADUATE QUIZ 2026 REPORT
DR. SASWATI NANDY Madam was a reflection of resilience, courage, knowledge, in spite of her unbearable suffering from lethal motor neuron disease for a long duration. Commemorating her great contribution in Community Medicine, IAPSM West Bengal chapter celebrates each year Undergraduate Intercollegiate Quiz across all the Medical Colleges of West Bengal, after her name.
This year in 2026 an overwhelming responses were received from total 30 Medical Colleges for participation in College level round, which is the record till date. Two qualifying Participants of 3rd Professional MBBS Part 1 batch from each college competed in the final round, to be held at Calcutta National Medical College, under the aegis of IAPSM, WB Chapter on 29th May, 2026.
Under the able leadership of Professor (Dr.) Sukamal Bisoi, President, IAPSM WB Chapter and Professor (Dr.) Aditi Aikat, Secretary, IAPSM WB Chapter; Dr. Maumita De, the state nodal person of DR. SASWATI NANDY MEMORIAL UNDERGRADUATE QUIZ 2026 successfully conducted the proframme with the help of respective college-nodal persons.
In inter-college round, a total of 60 participant students went through the Preliminary round, based on the MCQs set by the brilliant team of ten Quiz masters, maintaining blinding of college name. Only Four teams namely Calcutta National Medical College, Rampurhat Government Medical College, College of Medicine & JNM Hospital, Kalyani and R. G. Kar Medical College qualified for the Final Quiz round.
After inauguration ceremony attended by the dignified fraternitiesThe Final Quiz Round was preceded by celebration of World No Tobacco Day, just 2 days before its original day through wonderful presentation by Professor (Dr.) Aditi Aikat, Secretary, IAPSM WB Chapter.
The innovative, interesting Final Quiz Round comprised of 4 rounds, named in a fabulous manner as ‘Sabjanta Circuit’, ‘Antarjami Association’, ‘Prashnafilia Parishad’ and ‘Buddhir Brihaspati’. These rounds were enthusiastically taken up by the witty Quiz Masters’ team namely Dr. Anindita Maity, Dr. Somnath Naskar, Dr. Saikat Bhattacharya, Dr. Sulagna Das, Dr. Prianka Mukhopadhyay, Dr. Sunetra Kaviraj Roy, Dr. Abhishek De, Dr. Maumita De, Dr. Shamima Yasmin & Dr. Shibaji Gupta.
More than 120 keen audiences coming from different parts of West Bengal Medical colleges enjoyed the show and also participated in ‘Audience round’ whole-heartedly. Hot beverages and working lunch were served on the day of occasion.
Finally Calcutta National Medical College clinched the Winner’s Trophy as the top prize and the book Prizes were grasped by 3 runner-up teams. This Prestigious event concluded with the certificate distribution among nodal persons, participating students, quiz maters.
All the attendees left the venue with a sweet memory of excitement and fun!!!!
